The International Master of Business Administration program is well recognised for the timeliness and relevance of content and in preparing business professionals to lead firms and governments in international trade and investment.

This masters program maintains its innovativeness and cutting edge content through close alliances with industry bodies such as Austrade and the State Development departments as well as external and internal peer reviews.

This program also provides opportunities for participation in supervised Work Integrated Learning (160CP program only) and a large range of exchange programs in Asia, North America and Europe through its world-wide alliances with top universities.


Program structure

Students can advance their skills and expertise

The Honours program provides a pathway for eligible International MBA students to undertake a supervised dissertation on a topic of their choice.

The dissertation can then form the basis for entry into a research higher degree program. The IMBA with Honours program is a 120CP program (160CP for students with insufficient work experience).

Eligible students can elect to undertake the International Exchange Program.


Admission requirements

International Master of Business Administration (120CP)

To be eligible for admission to the International Master of Business Administration program, a student must:

  • hold a bachelors degree in any discipline from a recognised University (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum Grade Point Average of 4.5 (using a 7.0 scale); AND
  • have a minimum two years full-time (or equivalent) relevant work experience; OR
  • a Graduate Certificate in International Business Administration from Griffith University with a minimum Grade Point Average of 4.0.

Note: Degrees from overseas institutions must be assessed as equivalent to a recognised Australian Bachelors level degree.

Students who meet the academic requirement but do not meet the minimum of 2 years equivalent full-time relevant work experience requirement must undertake
a further 40CP of Work Integrated Learning within the program in which students participate in supervised work in their final semester of study. These students will be required to complete the 160CP program.


International Master of Business Administration (160CP)

To be eligible for admission to the International Master of Business Administration program, a student must:

  • hold a bachelors degree in any discipline from a recognised university (or another tertiary education institution of equivalent standing) with a minimum Grade Point Average of 4.5 (using a 7.0 point scale).

Note: Degrees from overseas institutions must be assessed as equivalent to a recognised Australian Bachelor level degree.

To be eligible to participate in the Work Integrated Learning component of the IMBA 160CP Program, students must attain a cumulative GPA of 4.5 over the 80CP of core coursework. Students who do not meet this requirement may (at the discretion of the Dean) be awarded an exit qualification.

Students must complete the Work Integrated Learning component in their final semester of study in order to complete the program and meet the degree requirements.

This component is not available for study on a part-time basis. Students from the IMBA program will be considered for entry into the IMBA Honours stream upon application to the IMBA Director.

For applications to be successful, students must have completed a minimum of 40CP (four core courses or equivalent) from the IMBA program and have a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 5.5 across the best four core courses (40CP) undertaken within the IMBA program. A suitable topic and supervisory arrangements must also be evident and elaborated in a research proposal of not less than 1000 words.

The final decision regarding entry to the IMBA Honours stream is at
the discretion of the IMBA Director.


International Exchange

International MBA students may apply for International Exchange as part of their degree (40CP). Students wishing to apply for the International Exchange must:

  • achieve a Grade Point Average of no less than 5.0 in their first semester of study or first 40CP of core courses or the GPA associated with the specific exchange program, whichever is higher; AND
  • have completed at least six core courses prior to departure; AND
  • gain approval from the MBA Director to study at preferred overseas institution

Grants up to the value of $4000 are available and eligibility for the grants will be assessed by the Exchange Coordinator as part of the Outgoing Exchange application process so there is no need to apply for a grant separately.
